Physical anthropology is the subfield of anthropology that specifically focuses on human evolution. This branch studies the biological and physiological aspects of humans, including their evolutionary history, the processes of natural selection, and the mechanisms that impact human variation. Physical anthropologists examine fossil evidence, analyze the genetic makeup of contemporary humans and our primate relatives, and explore the environmental and social factors that have influenced human development over time.

The other subfields, while integral to the broader field of anthropology, do not focus primarily on evolution.
